ActiveMailer is a Rails plug-in providing enterprise level email sending, business logic management, and auditing.
The Rails Way of sending messages is a great starting place, but starts to break down as application complexity increases. ActiveMailer solves that problem by putting the M back in MVC. ActiveMailer creates an ActiveRecord-style database-backed model where you can describe all the requirements for sending an email, so you'll never send another inappropriate email again. Because ActiveMailer is model-backed, it provides far more robust auditing and far safer failure. Wanna know how many notification emails Bill got? User.find_by_username("bill").notification_emails.
